Beijing Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention(CDC)&Centers for Preventive Medical Research is a municipal institution. According to the national reform of organization, it was founded in June 2000, on the basis of Beijing Hygienic and Anti-epidemic Station. Beijing Municipal Institute for Labour Health and Occupational Diseases Control, Beijing Institute of Health Education, and Beijing Institute of STD Prevention and Treatment. The headquarters lies on the north of Ditan Park in Dongcheng district, with occupied areas of 22,000 square meters and building areas of 43,000 square meters.
CDC consists of 28 institutes. Among 600 staff, the percent of senior or intermediate professionals is above 51%, and about 40 persons have doctoral or master degrees. There are 463 great instruments such as GC/MSD, HPLC(waters2690), LC(Dionex- 600), automatic biochemistry analyzer and so on. CDC pursues prevention and control of infectious diseases, chronic noncommunicable diseases and common diseases among students. CDC performs disinfection & pest control, hygienic laboratory evaluation and hygienic toxicology inspection of appliances associated closely with people health, such as food, cosmetics, water- related products, single-used hygienic utensils. Besides, it also performs prevention and control of occupational health and disease, radiation protection, health examination of practitioners and the sanitary assessment on construction. Furthermore, CDC guarantees public health in major activities. On the other hand, Centers for Preventive Medical Research purses scientific research of preventive medicine. The informational statistics center makes statistics, analysis and submitting preventive information of diseases as well as the usual safeguard of the informational Internet. Together with Capital Medical University, the center has set up school of public health and family medicine, and is carrying out regular college courses. In addition, Beijing Preventive&Medical Association, Captial Journal of Preventive Medicine, Beijing Center of AIDS Inspection, health-related products office of hygienic bureau as well as Beijing Hygienic and Anti-epidemic Emergency Center are located at the center.
Up to now, CDC has become a multiple professional organization of diseases prevention&control, inspection, scientific research and preventive medicine teaching, hygienic technology training, hygienic propagation and health education.
